Beautifully Broken by KB Winters ..... Review by Dawn

Beautifully Broken (Reckless Bastards MC Book 1) by [Winters, KB]

As an ex-Navy SEAL there are a few guarantees in life.

Avoiding relationships is one of them. Dealing with PTSD is another.
So when I come across the Reckless Bastards MC, it’s perfect for a man like me.
Last thing I expect is to encounter Jana Carter at a painting class. Don’t ask why I was there.
I can hardly keep my eyes off of her. She’s a shy, sultry vixen, and she grabs a hold of me so hard, I can’t let go.
But, I don’t expect to fall for any women—much less find one who can deal with me and my messed up past.
Just when I thought I’d built strong walls around my heart, I discover her walls are reinforced with steel. She’s so pure, so innocent—and hard.
Against all the odds, I want her.
I’ll do anything to have her, to make her mine.

This is a new to me MC author and I will have to say that I did enjoy this book. NOW, with that said, I hardly found this book to be a "true" MC book. The club was a pit stop and not the destination. With being touted as MC, is sorta of a stretch. BUT this is BOOK 1 so maybe that was the intention of the author to introduce the characters in this manner.... Still, it bothered me because we really never met "the club." To me this was a guy who knew members of an MC. JUST MY OPINION !

Jana, was incredibly likable. Her smart mouth and quick wit were hilarious and at times heart breaking. She and her best friend Teddy, are a flipping dream team. They call each other out on their bull and pull each other up when they are down. Being that Jana, is scared and wants to live a life in isolation, Teddy makes it her job to bring her out in public. Jana's story is heart wrenching and I honestly thought we would get more of it. I thought past people were going to show up again, but they didn't and I am not sure how I feel about that.

Max, is carrying scars of his own. Suffering from PTSD, he is suffering nightmares and drinking too much just to cope. He is seeing a therapist on the regular, but it is not helping all that much. When it is suggested that he get back to things he enjoyed doing before the military, like sex ... so he goes back to painting. Attending a class that does in fact change his life, when he meets Jana.

The friendship that develops was really a beautiful read. Max, by no means hides his attraction to Jana, but he lets her make the moves (not very MC.) But once she does, they are explosive!

Now, this is how the club is involved. They happen upon Jana one day at the grocery and insult her...YEAH. Max, catches it and well loses his mind, but still it is never really resolved. (Not very MC.) Max, goes to the club that he has not visited in months (um, hello?) and they are all just welcoming... I had a hard time with this, he was a dang nomad at this point, not a member.
Overcoming their pasts and being honest is difficult for both Jana and Max. It is especially hard when Max, runs at the first sign of trouble....many times. He is suffering and refuses to let Jana in . Jana on the other had, has made her mind up. If he can't be there full time, he isn't allowed to be there at all, even if she is in love with him.

This story does have a very good message about excepting help from other and overcoming your monsters to see the beauty right in front of your eyes. For that reason alone, this book gets 4 clocks. I just wish it was either a TRUE MC or not described that way. AGAIN, these are just my opinions.

Owen , An Undercover Billionaire Novel by Melody Anne. Reveiw by Dawn

Owen (Undercover Billionaire Book 3) by [Anne, Melody]

There was a time when Eden’s entire world revolved around Owen Forbes. They were inseparable childhood sweethearts. They planned a life together. Then, without so much as a goodbye, Owen vanished. Now, after ten years, he’s returned to town as the hottest new firefighter on the force. Whatever secrets pulled them apart, Eden can’t fight the sparks reignited by the man who broke her heart.
Owen knows he did Eden wrong. If only he could tell her why. As body meets body, he’s whispering for a second chance—wanting her back so bad it hurts. It can also be dangerous. An arsonist is targeting the small town of Edmonds, and Eden with it. And it’s Owen himself who’s become engulfed in suspicion.
Eden knows that with a past as hot and mysterious as Owen’s, their future together could go up in flames. Because the one man she’s afraid to trust is the only man she desires—and the only one who can save her.

Dawn's reveiw

This is a second chance romance that is told through dual pov's and I appreciated that. I did think this story was a good addition to the Undercover Billionaire's series by Melody Anne. I just didn't love it. It was sexy as we know Melody, does really well. It was full of angst, mystery, love and resolution for Owen and Eden.
I loved that she made Owen a fire fighter, that in itself made him very likable. Eden, was a strong "I can take care of myself" kind of leading lady. It was tiresome at times, but she was determined to show just how strong she was, almost to a fault.

Owen and Eden, I really wanted to love them and I did for the most part. I did grow tired of the back and forth and continued beating a dead horse, it was a lot.  It really became very hard to keep my mind on the book, because I knew it was coming ...AGAIN.
There were many things I did like about the book. The angst and suspense were on par and really kept me vested in that part of the story.  Owen,  was likable and I sorta of wanted to be mad at him for just up and leaving Eden. Once the reasoning behind it was revealed, he became a bit more likable, but I still didn't love him. He cut everyone off and it was just "OK he's back, all is good."
Eden, I was a little more on the fence about. OK, you love him have always loved him, but you were completely heart broken by him , but you jump in bed with him at any given time.????  I wanted her to quit going rogue and doing all this crazy dangerous stuff, when warned that she was in danger.
I am still at a bit of a loss as to why the Forbes are targeted. I am however looking forward to Declan's book. He has been a mystery all this time and I am curious about him.

Moonlight & Whiskey by Tricia Lynne......... 5 Clock review by Dawn

Moonlight & Whiskey by [Lynne, Tricia]When life gives you curves, you gotta learn how to rock them.
Successful businesswoman Avery Barrows likes her dips and curves, but she’s sick of the haters telling her that she should be ashamed of her body instead of embracing it. Determined to send them a big f*** you, Avery resolves to cut loose during a girls’ trip, hightailing her quick-mouthed, plus-sized self to New Orleans. So, what’s a smart woman with a little extra gotta do to get laid in this town?

Not much if you ask Declan McGinn, the lead singer of BlackSmith. Tall, dark, and tattooed, with a body made for sin, Declan prefers his women as curvy as his guitars. Avery’s sharp tongue and keen mind makes him want her even more.

As they burn up the sheets, Avery and Declan realize this is no one-night (or even one-week) stand. But for all of her bluster, Avery isn’t sure she can handle any more rejection. Besides, Declan has demons of his own. Now Avery has a choice to make: play it safe, or place her trust in the hands of a man who’s as tempting as the devil himself.

~Dawn's Review~

I love finding new author's! I am so stoked to have found Moonlight & Whiskey just waiting on me to devour in a DAY!

This is just the book I was looking for and a new author, which I have been craving.  The writing is really fantastic! I am a super smart mouth so I related so much to Avery on so many levels. I am also a curvy girl who loves my curves and have a man who loves them as well.  This story is a lesson in self acceptance and loving one's self for exactly who you are. Even the "beautiful people" have self doubt and are always finding some flaw, we all do. When Avery and Declan meet, it is fireworks instantly and I was 100% in. The verbiage used to describe our leads, was spot on, I had a clear mental picture of what Avery and Declan looked like and my imagination went wild.

Avery, is everything we want in a leading lady. She doesn't hold back on much of anything, she says whatever comes to mind and sometimes that gets her into trouble... or asked out.
Declan , is a super hot guy, a sexy rock singer and so much more. He has no business being attracted to Avery (according to Avery) but oh, is he. One touch and the electricity shoots through both of them and there is no denying something is going to happen.
Explosive does not even begin to cover the fireworks that Avery and Declan share when they decide to give into their shared passion.   What is suppose to be a vacation fling is setting up to be something that is so much more. Both Avery and Declan,  are harboring secrets that are eating them up inside. Avery, is afraid to let herself go and just live her best life, free of judgement and consequence. While Declan, has some serious issues with his past and is steadfast in believing, if he falls for someone he will end up just hurting them, so why bother? He never counted on Avery coming into his life.
It is a very interesting story as we see Avery, come into her own and accept herself for the fabulous person she is. She realizes that she is worthy of a good man and respect from her job. NO more is she willing to be the doormat to be walked on, by anyone.
Declan, on the other had is having a tough time figuring out how to come to terms with his feelings for Avery. He feels like he will never measure up to the people in Avery's life. Little does he know, he is far beyond better than the narrow minded people Avery works with.
The author went deep with the supporting cast. Avery's best friend is the best kind of friend. Kat, calls Avery to the mat when she is too hard on herself, she is supportive and hilarious!  Kat and Avery, could easily have a series of books written about their adventures. Jamie, Shaun and Mattie are the band members, but each of them play a part in this story that leaves us wanting to know more about them. I want their stories as well. The cast is rich and wonderfully developed.
Moonlight & Whiskey, gives you angst, humor, sexiness and resolution. It is a fantastic read. I connected with Avery, in a way I have NEVER connected with another leading lady.
This is Author Tricia Lynne's, first book and I am here to tell you, that I am IN for everything else she has coming!

Flow: Men of Inked: Southside by Chelle Bliss...... Review by Dawn

Flow (Men of Inked: Southside Book 2) by [Bliss, Chelle]

The moment I looked into his eyes, I knew I was in trouble.

The second I heard his name, I knew I should stay away.

Our fathers were mortal enemies—Chicago crime bosses from rival families.

But that didn’t stop Leo Conti from pursuing me.

Being together was dangerous, reckless, and totally hot.
He wanted me. I wanted him.

What could possibly go wrong?

Dawn's Review

There is absolutely nothing wrong with more Gallo's, even if they are the Southside Gallo's. You know exactly what you are going to get with a Chelle Bliss book, a steamy, sexy, intriguing, often funny good read! Flow does not disappoint, Daphane and Leo, are explosive.
This is reminiscent of a modern and much dirtier  Montague's and Capulet's! Fathers that are mortal enemies, forbidden passion... All boxes are checked.
Daphane, is in true Gallo female, take not crap and give the crap she does take, right back.  I like to call her Izzy 2.).
Leo, is the sexy smoldering wild card. Showing up at Lucio's wedding just to see if the rumor is true, "is Santino Gallo out of prison?" Never expecting to have the sexiest woman he has ever seen land in his arms. Nor, did he ever expect it to be Daphane Gallo. He is determined not to let his father's issues become his, he wants Daphane to be his.

Sparks fly, will bullets?
This is an excellent addition to the Gallo Family saga's, even if it is the Southside Gallo's . My only issue is I wanted it to be longer. I feel like there could have been more angst and family drama. But that may be me just being greedy.

Dawn's Review

This is my first time reading AJ Love, and I am a FAN! I loved this story so much. It wasn't pretty, at times it was down right ugly, in the BEST possible way. We have two characters that are broken, each in a different way. Kane, thinks that his past makes him unlovable because of a single act that changed his families dynamic.  Layton had it all, a family that loved her, finish high school. college, marriage and motherhood. That, was not what Layton, wanted. When she got her chance she quit school and left with her friend Morgan, heading from Louisiana to Texas. Life was not on her side. Working two jobs, one at a grocery store and the other... well, I'll let you find out on your own.
Kane, has had plans in the works for years for his brother and himself to open a garage. With his brother gone now, it is all on Kane and he is determined to make it a success. He has his Mom in his life and a father that is useless and gone. It is all on Kane to take care of his mother and live with guilt and keep everyone at arms length with his off putting attitude and constant scowl.

Kane and Layton, live in the same rundown apartment complex and literally trip and fall into each other's arms. The attraction is instant and palpable, but unwanted by both.  Layton. is having a serious run of bad luck and has about reached her limit. When Kane, offers to fix one of her problems, her air conditioning. This leads to Kane, stepping up and doing other odd's and in's for Layton, but for Layton this leads to her unstoppable need for Kane. Unbeknownst to her, Kane, is feeling the same way. Their lives are full of secrets and unknown trouble coming their way from an enemy that Kane, is aware of. His need to protect Layton, has him relying on the local MC ,that he has become friends with. Kane and Layton are explosive and have amazing chemistry! When they decide to give in and see where this could lead, once their pasts are shared and they decide they are worth a chance.

There are twists and turns and then MORE twists and turns. I was reading and then "RIGHT TURN CLYDE," I was stunned at what happened. The tension was building and you just knew something was going to come along and try and destroy what Kane and Layton, were trying to build... and it is a BIG thing. The Author does not sugar coat it,but still tells the story and makes it so believable. It was tough to read and I LOVE that she made me feel all the feels!
The supporting characters offer some comedic relief. The MC brothers really give Kane, a lot of crap and it is fun to see. But Jackson, he is EVERYTHING. Layton's gay bestie is so funny and her prefect match. I loved their relationship.

I loved this story so much! I had so many emotions and to be honest, it has been lacking recently with most of my reads. I was brought out of my book funk and thrown into a book that grabbed a hold of me and kept my attention from page one to the last.

Tossed into Love by Aurora Rose Reynolds ....... review by Dawn

Libby Reed is over it. Or that’s what she tells herself. She’s lusted after one of New York’s bravest for years, but firefighter Antonio Moretti has doused her interest for the last time. As much as she wants the arrogant jerk (in a bad, bad way), they can’t even be in the same room without setting each other off…which might be a problem now that she’s volunteered to help out in his family’s restaurant.
Antonio’s been burned before. Now he knows better than to trust a pretty face and follow another pair of long, beautiful legs into heartbreak. But while Libby might rub him the wrong way, he can’t deny the heat between them. And it only burns hotter when she steps up in his time of need. The closer they get, the more he realizes he may have misjudged her. Then again, he doesn’t know the secret Libby’s keeping that could send their relationship up in flames before it’s even begun.

Dawn's Review

This is my first read in the Fluke My Life series, yes, I am starting at book 3 and I had zero problems. Each book is a standalone in the series. Characters crossover but it is very easy to follow.

Libby, is absolutely adorable. I instantly liked her. Her crush on Antonio, has been going on for years. Libby, has made a name for herself in a profession that she is not passionate about any longer. She is longing for a change and to do something that makes her truly happy, enter Antonio's family’s restaurant. Although he is a firefighter, he is running the place since his father has recently suffered a heart attack.  Antonio, has a chip on his solders when it comes to the Pizzeria. His father sacrificed everything, even family to make the business a success. Where Libby loves the place, to Antonio, he can not get out of there fast enough.

Libby, starts helping out in the pizzeria much to Antonio's disliking, but Libby, simply does not care. This is her calling and she will not let anyone, even the man she has loved in secret for years stop her.

They story is very well written and the flow is nice and easy. It has the hilarity we would expect form Aurora, with just enough drama to make you keep turning the pages.

This is a feel good story that I believe brings this series to a conclusion.  I
highly recommend this if you are looking to get your HEA fix.

Get a little taste of Dirty Defiance

I don’t pay much attention to what I’m throwing into my suitcase as I pack. Some of the clothes are still in their dry cleaning bags. I’ll manage a few work outfits out of all this stuff.
I’m pretty pissed. After three weeks apart, Jude took off on me and won’t answer my calls or texts. I missed him like crazy, playing the role of doting politician’s wife while he campaigned.
He knows how much I was dreading that fucking interview and photo shoot for a magazine spread about our home life. Even with the cleaning and decorating help his staff hired, I had to make sure everything was just perfect myself. When a photographer is coming into your home, you have to make sure every last thing is on point.
But I gladly did all of it for him. He’s only home for two days before he hits the campaign trail again, and I’m livid that he fucked me and hardly said two words to me before storming out of here.
We agreed before we got married that nothing would ever come between us. Not politics, not my father—our marriage comes first.
But today his fucking ego came first, and I’m not waiting around until he decides to come home.
I’ve been sidelining my work for months now, focusing on helping Jude instead. And that’s been hard for me, because I’m passionate about my work. I’m the US Congress liaison for The Lancet Foundation, an organization founded two years ago to advocate for bipartisanship.
Jude and I have become the poster children for crossing party lines to find common ground. As Congressional opponents, we should have been enemies. For a while, we kind of were. But I quickly fell for him, seeing that what brought us together was more important than what we disagreed about.
I didn’t drop out of the race because of our relationship, but because the revelation about my father’s secret family made me reevaluate what was really important to me. But I’ve taken lots of hits from women’s groups within the Democratic Party for stepping aside for my man.
Fuck them. They don’t know me, and they don’t know us.
I add a couple pairs of heels and my travel makeup bag to the suitcase, zipping it closed. When I pick up my phone, I see a text from Julia, my assistant. She’s booked my flight and arranged for me to be picked up in DC when I arrive late this afternoon.
I’ve been pushing this trip back for weeks, prioritizing Jude and his campaign. No more.

Even Money and Double Down by Alessandra Torre...... Review by Dawn

Sometimes it only takes a minute. A connection of eyes across a room, a quickened heartbeat, and everything changes.

I was a cocktail waitress with a fondness for partying and meaningless sex.
He owned half of Vegas, with the reputation to match.

I should have turned away. Instead, I stepped closer.

Then, the lies started.
Rumors spread.
Stalking commenced.
And someone died.

None of it stopped me from falling in love.

Double Down (All In Duet Book 2) by [Torre, Alessandra]

In Vegas, there was one man who was off limits. One man... and I fell for him.

I knew there were risks. Still, I played the game. When Dario Capece called, I answered. When he beckoned, I came. When he broke all my rules, I looked the other way.

I knew there were risks. I just never realized they included death.

Dawn's Review

Bell, was a character that I loved... in the beginning.
Dario, was someone who bothered me, but then grew on me.
I really did enjoy this story and the second book Double Down as well.  I thought the plot was interesting and kept me engaged. I was far more interested in knowing more about Dario and Gwen at cretin points in the book. We did get the full story and I was really vested in their "marriage."  It was believable and made my heart heavy for poor old Gwen. I was really happy to see that she did love "Ranch hand Nick," see everyone was happy.
Now, with Bell's past and it being mentioned many times, when she felt uneasy, I was left saying 'GIRL, WHY ARE YOU NOT LISTENING TO YOUR GUT?" I just thought since she had this "feeling" why did she ignore it. Of course, we are readers and we pick up on it, because we are getting the entire picture and have to wait on the character to "get it."
Dario, was truly a gentlemen, he treated Bell with respect and let he know right from the start that he was married and the reason for his wedding.  I believed him, I really did, he married Gwen, for her protection.  Dario and Bell, has amazing chemistry , sparks and super sexiness!
The supporting cast were FANTASTIC. I loved Lance and Rick, they were hilarious and so fiercely loyal to Bell.  Bell's roommates were fun to read about. Meredith and Bell, had me cracking up!
It is a dark read at times, kidnapping and rape are discussed, many times. I didn't mind the darker side of this story, as it was not a constant conversation.
The story did get a bit wordy at times, but other than those few things, I did really enjoy it.
The ending to Even Money, left us with a cliffhanger, I KNOW! But Alessandra, being the giver that she is, only made us wait a week for book 2, Double Down, so cliffy be damned!

The Double Down, picks right up where Even Money left us, with a dead body, but who's?

STOP READING THIS REVIEW.....SPOILER ALERT

So,  Bell lives.... and someone else is shot. I'm going to let you take a minute, before you go on...

Bell, lives and Gwen dies. I mean I saw that coming but it still was a shock. I believed Dario's pain, he lost his best friend, but his true love was in the very room, suppose to be dead. All of this leads to Dario, swiftly getting Bell out of Vegas and sending her to the only person/people he trusts.
Things transpire between the local police, the feds and Gwen's father Hawk. Talk about a character that had zero redeeming qualities. I hated that man, like to his core. I was so happy when he died. I took a minute to let myself enjoy his death, although it was a bit rushed, I needed Hawk to suffer...A lot.
Dario and Bell, still had the same chemistry and they were brought even closer with the constant threat of who wanted Bell dead. Even with Hawk, gone the threat was still there.
The dark underlying topic in this story was Hawk's penchant for kidnapping young women and breaking them.  The FBI was on the trail with Dario's help. This played out and was a huge part of the book and sometimes I felt a little uninterested. I didn't have a connection to these victims, and I was glad for that, because this story had enough players to keep up with.

I love that this was left a bit open ended. Not everything was wrapped up and that is exciting! This duo is worth the read and you will enjoy it. Alessandra, tells a story that is steamy, drama filled and always with her tendency to go a little twisted.
