Roomies by Christina Lauren...Review by Dawn

From subway to Broadway to happily ever after. Modern love in all its thrill, hilarity, and uncertainty has never been so compulsively readable as in New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren’s (Beautiful Bastard, Dating You / Hating You) new romance.

Marriages of convenience are so…inconvenient.

Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a bigtime musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway—until he admits his student visa has expired and he’s in the country illegally.

Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

Review

I have not read a Christina Lauren in a while, I am now going back to revisit the previous works that I have of theirs.
I loved this book! Calvin and Holland stole my heart, I laughed and I cried. I stayed up all night reading this, not joke. I said aloud at the end of the book, " NO, I want more give me an epilogue and then another one..." I do not have that reaction very often, I wanted to make it last.
I enjoyed the fact that there was not this long and drawn out affair, we get right into Holland's head, what a hilarious place it is to be. Her quick whit and the gift of perfect sarcasm, made this such so much fun to read. The way the authors wrote about the way Holland, heard music and the way it made her feel, was simply perfection, I felt myself feeling it.
Calvin, is just lovely. So often our leading men are either Alpha's or a complete scumbag, who redeems himself. Calvin, is a good guy from beginning to end, he just happens to be in a bad situation. He has no idea who Holland is until he saves her one night, only to disappear. Calvin is resourceful and holds down a few jobs in different bands. But one thing stays the same, he is always playing music. Music is what brings Holland to his rescue.
Can a relationship built out of convenience turn into the real thing? Can Holland keep her major crush on her new husband a secret?
The writing of the leads and supporting cast is superb. The characters are so likable and I was vested in their interwoven interactions. I wanted to keep finding out more about the supporting characters and you were gifted with more. The growth that Holland and Calvin go through in a short time is in a word, believable. It gave me a pit in my stomach the last few chapters. I swore that if this didn't end the way I wanted it to, I would find Christina and Lauren and demand a rewrite of the ending. THAT is how into this book I was.
